Constitutional Crisis October 17, 2008

Filed under: Life — michalelhall @ 12:15 pm

Is Obama a citizen of the United States?  Why is there an ongoing court case (Berg vs Obama) that questions this?  Why hasn’t Obama produced documentation to prove he is a citizen of the US in order to make the court case go away?  If he can produce a valid birth certificate then the matter will be closed.  The fake birth certificate on the campaign Web site and does not count. is run by the Annenberg Foundation (Obama has served on the board in the past).

This is a direct challenge of our Constitution.  Where are we headed if we do not require Obama to provide valid proof the he is Constitutionally qualified to run for President.  There is an easy solution to this crisis.  All Obama has to do is provide the proper documents to resolve this matter, Just like McCain did when he provided his birth certificate and medical records for review.

Please pass this along.  If enough people are exposed to this information, maybe the media will have to cover the story.  If Obama produces REAL proof that he is a natural-born citizen, then I will gladly shut up about this.  Until then, I believe that it is my duty to defend the Constitution of the United States.

For more information just Google “Berg vs Obama” or “Philip J. Berg”.

God is so GOOD! September 17, 2008

Can you believe I am posting twice in one week.  I know it’s amazing isn’t it?

Well lately I have been feeling a little sorry for myself.  I have been a little lonely here in Arkansas.  I have been emailing and Facebooking (is that a word? I just made it up) with all of you in Tennessee and it has made me miss you all terribly.  I have yet to make the kind of friendships here that I had there.  I know there will never be friends like you all.  You are irreplaceable.  We have just starting to become involved at church.  I never thought we would have taken so long to get established in a church.  But it just goes to show you how easy it is to not go to church.  We went to church but not always on a regular basis and we were church looking.  We feel God has led us to Fellowship Bible Church.  I am meeting people, but I still feel like an outsider.

Well on to why God is so good.  I was crying out to God (literally) on Tuesday morning wanting to make connections with someone.  I don’t want ya’ll to think I have no friends, just not any close friends.  I want someone I can call at the last minute and go have lunch or go shopping with.  So, last night I was on my way to a Women’s event at church and I got a call from a lady on my weight loss class and she wanted some of us to get together for lunch today.   I was thrilled to get to see them.  I haven’t seen them in awhile.  I am still going to class but they have stopped because they have lost the weight they wanted to lose.  Needless to say I still have more to lose (I have lost 65 lbs so when I see you guys you better notice).  Then, last night when I got home from church I had an email from someone in my New Beginnings Class wanting some of us to go to lunch today.  I couldn’t believe it.  Two invitations in one day.  I love that I have a God who cares enough for me to not only hear my cries, but to let me know that He loves me so much that He provided two lunch dates.  So I am off to get ready for lunch with friends and I couldn’t be happier.  I am just going to one though – the diet would not be working if I had lunch twice in one day.  We scheduled lunch with the friends from church for next week.

Updates on our lives September 14, 2008

Long time no post, I know.  But as I have said before I am not very diligent about blogging.  I always think I will blog today and then today comes and goes and I haven’t blog about anything.  I think I make it too complicated thinking I have to get in all of this stuff when really I don’t.

School is going really well for the kids. We are at midterms this week.   I have a 4th grader, 8th grader, and last but not least, a 9th grader.  Thomas is sort of in high school.  He is in high school at church, but at school he is considered junior high still.  They keep the 6th graders at the elementary school, so the upper school starts at 7th grade.  Junior High is 7th – 9th and High School is 9th – 12th.  I am okay with that.  I sometimes think they are growing up so fast and they are.  I can’t believe my kids are as old as they are and I am still as young as I am. (HaHa)  But seriously just the other day someone asked how old my kids were and I told her and she could not believe I was old enough to have kids that old.  I was thrilled needless to say.

Guess what Thomas is doing?  He has taken his written driving test.  In Arkansas you can legally drive at 14 with an adult in the car.  Is that crazy or what?  He has to have this permit for 6 months and then he can take his driving test in a car.  So since the majority of you are not in Arkansas you can breathe a sigh of relief.  Just pray for us as we embark on yet another phase of our lives. He is doing really well at driving so far.  He has just been on neighborhood streets and a few main streets.  I am looking forward to when he can drive himself and the girls to school.  We spend at least $100 on gas each week so it will be a big break when he can drive.  Their school is in Little Rock so I drive about 60 miles a day taking and picking them up from school.

Thomas and Lizzie both have gotten braces.  Thomas has had his about a month and Lizzie got hers last Thursday.  Emma Grace will not be too far behind them.  She just has to lose a few more baby teeth.  Man braces are expensive!  You should start saving now if you do not have good dental insurance.  Since Tom is self employed we do not have the best insurance.  It was going to cost all most as much as getting the braces as to have insurance to include braces

Tom is working on his Real Estate license.  He should take the exam in a couple of weeks.  We are in the process of getting all the warehouses leased.  This is a huge praise!  We have had two empty since he took over last year.  One of the potential renters is waiting to hear on a contract so it is still up in the air.  But it looks promising.  I am helping with the company a little bit.  I am doing documentation and some office work.  I am also trying to volunteer more at the kids school.  Mostly at the elementary, they do not need too much help at the high school.

Emma Grace is playing soccer again.  Here there are numerous leagues to sign up with.  We signed up with Lakewood (which is the neighborhood we live in) again and they only have one team in Emma’s age group so she is playing with the same girls as she did last year.  They are all good friends and are awesome soccer players.  There team was a B team last year and this year they are an A team so they are playing harder teams.  So far they have won one game and tied another.  They won just about all their games last year.

We are finally getting involved in our church.  We are taking a class at church on Wed. nights called Discover Fellowship.  You have to take this class for 4 weeks before they put you into a small group.  I am taking a class on Monday nights for women new to Fellowship Bible Church and new to the Little Rock area.  We are reading the book “After the Boxes are Unpacked.”  It is a great book for anyone who has moved or will soon be moving.  I am getting to know some neat ladies that are going through all the same things I am going through.  Even though we have been here a year we really haven’t made many connections with people.  So this class is helping with that.  It’s kind of an emotional class but I think is good to get all that stuff out and share it with other people.  And when we get plugged in with a small group that will help as well.

Well that is about all that is going on with us right now.  I know you are all thrilled to know what we have been up to.  Hope you are all well.  I can’t wait until we can see you all soon.

Life in Arkansas July 18, 2008

I do not know what is wrong with me lately.  I want to tell you what is going on in our lives, I just haven’t.  It isn’t like I have a whole lot going on right now.  I have time to read all of your blogs, I just haven’t taken time to write my own.  But alas it has been a long time.  I can’t say it won’t happen again, so I won’t apologize and tell you I will try to be better.  I hope I will be better, but I make no promises.  So onto what has been going on.

I got tagged by Ashley recently to come up with a 6 word memoir.  So what I finally came up with was…

Wife, Mom, Daughter, Sister Immeasurably Blessed

I do feel blessed to be Tom’s wife and mom to Thomas, Lizzie, and Emma Grace.  I have a wonderful mom and an incredible mother-in-law (not everyone can say that).  My sister is one of my best friends.  Needless to say I have one incredible family and I know it.  Sometimes they drive me crazy but they are still all mine.  I’m sure I drive them crazy from time to time as well.  I won’t tagged any one else because I figure you have all been tagged.  If you haven’t and want to come up with your 6 word memoir then consider yourself tagged.

On to other topics of interests.  I did go to my reunion and had a great time.  I am so glad I went.  I made Tom go with me so I wouldn’t have to walk in by myself.  He was a real trooper to put up with all of that.  The 20 year was so much better than the 10 year.  At the 10yr everyone was trying to impress each other and  outdo each other.  This one was much more relaxed and people were more laid back.  I got to see everyone I wanted to see.  There were 5 of us that were always together and it was great to catch up with all of them.  What I was shocked at was the difference in some of the guys.  There were quite a few that I did not even recognize.  They had changed that much.  They were gray and had bellies.  It was just a shock that the “cool” guys that we all had crushes on were not that impressive anymore.  Tom has aged so much better than most of them.  He also said that the girls all looked older than me.  That make me feel good that I didn’t look as old as they did.  Someone the other day was shocked that I was going to my 20th reunion, she said I only looked like I was 32 or 33.  I said “Bless You” and she made my day.  I feel redeemed from the crazy lady that thought I was Tom’s mom.  So since I am older than many of you I can only encourage you to go to your reunions that are coming in the next few years.  You won’t regret it and no one will tell you that you should have lost that 50lbs because alot of them could stand to lose a few themselves.

It was great to see everyone when we were in Tennessee.  We had fun catching up with everyone.  The kids had a great time at camp whatever and Emma Grace had fun with Robyn and Emily.  Thanks for everyone’s  hospitality and always know that we would love to extend that hospitality to anyone that wants to come to see us in Arkansas.  We can go to the lake and play on the boat and the jet skiis.  They are tons of fun.  In fact we will be going in a few days to play and relax.

The Year Was 1988… June 1, 2008

Filed under: Life — michalelhall @ 11:36 pm

Can I just say I am officially freaking out!  My mom called today and told me she got a call from one of my school friends and our 20thhigh school reunion is the end of this month.  I knew it was coming but not yet!  Our last reunion was in August so I thought I had a little while longer.  Apparently I was on the list of lost classmates.  Now, my maiden name was Busby and my dad’s name is Hoytt.  It’s not that common of a name – they weren’t looking for John Smith.  (By the way one of my good friends in high school was named Jon Smith.)  My parents have had the same phone number for as long as I have been alive, so I think someone wasn’t trying to hard. They couldn’t find me at the 10 year reunion as well.  Should I take this as a hint?  Why does my high school reunion put fear in my heart?  All those same fears that I had while in high school came rushing back.  Why do I feel the need to impress all those people all over again?  Don’t get me wrong I had a wonderful high school experience.  I loved most of it.  I ran with the “it” crowd, had lots of fun, and lots of great memories.  But 20 years later I am not so sure of myself.  Does anyone know how to lose 50lbs in 4 weeks?  HAHA!  I have been losing weight (35lbs) but I will not be close to where I would like to be by then.  But hopefully I will not be the only one.  I will go and have a wonderful time and see friends I haven’t seen in 10 years.  So wish me luck and I think I will go invest in some Spanx.

Abundance May 13, 2008

Filed under: Life — michalelhall @ 12:00 pm

Did Jesus live an abundant life?  This question was asked on a recent Sunday by a pastor at church.  My very first reaction before I even had time to think about it was “no.”  Then I promptly thought how could I even think that?  Had today’s society influenced me so much that I thought Jesus – the Son of God did not have an abundant life.   In today’s world of everything supersized – from our food to our cars, our view of abundance has been somewhat misguided.   When one thinks of abundance today we think of how much money we make, how big our house is, or how many “toys” we have.  I had to do some soul searching because I knew Jesus had an abundant life.  But what was abundant about His life?  His abundance was found in His Father, His work here on earth,  and in dying on the cross to save us.  It was not in the stuff He had or didn’t have.  He was always seeking to do the will of the Father, so is that how to have an abundant life?  I can only follow the example He set before me and chose to seek the will God as well.

John 10:10 ” The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.  I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

Here are Ridley and Jake.  Just thought you might like to see what they looked like.  They are both Morkies just not from the same litter.  They are about a week apart.  Ridley is 4 1/2 months old.  They are loads of fun.  Only mildly destructive.  Jake just ruined a pair of my favorite Born flip flops, but other than that they are really adding alot to our family.

Back among the Blogging World April 8, 2008

Well, I have decided I have been away long enough.  I know you are all dying to know what is going on here in Arkansas.  I really do not have a great excuse as to why I haven’t blogged in forever.  I just haven’t.  But since I am being deleted from the blogrolls of my nearest and dearest of friends I guess I better get to blogging again.

Last time I talked I blogged I told you about the crazy lady who thought I was Tom’s mom.  Well guess what?  They will be moving into Neelie and Bobo’s house at the end of the month.  They are only renting the house instead of buying it.  They will be in it for at least a year, so I guess I will make the best of it.  I am sure she is a really nice lady, but I might still be a little bitter about the whole thing.

On to other things.  We have added to our family.  We now have 2 puppies.  We got them a couple of months ago.  They are both boys and their names are Jake and Ridley.  The dogs are Morkies – Yorkie and Maltese mix.  We are having so much fun with them.  The kids are so excited.  They have wanted a dog for so long.  They are really adding excitement to our family.

The kids are doing really well.  Everyone is doing better than I ever thought they would.  I thought the transition would take longer, but they are adjusting well.  School is going great.  They are making good friends.  Although they still talk about how they would rather still be in Smyrna.  Thomas and Lizzie have been on the Principal’s List all year which means they have made all A’s.  Emma Grace has also done just as well, they just don’t have a principal’s list at the elementary.   Emma Grace is playing soccer this spring.  It has rained here so much that she has only played two of the games.  Four have been cancelled because of weather.  Thomas is enjoying hanging out with his friends and playing XBOX during his every free moment.  Lizzie is finally a teenager and also enjoys being with her friends.

We are still looking for a church.  I know we been here 8 months and still haven’t decided on a church.  I never thought it would take us this long but it has.  We have got it narrowed down to 2.  This has been the hardest part of moving here.  There is nothing like FBC Smyrna here.  I know I shouldn’t compare churches here to what is there, but it is hard not to.   One of the churches is Fellowship Bible Church in Little Rock.  This is the original Fellowship Bible Church.  It is wonderful, but really big and not close to us.  We have to drive about 25 minutes to get there.  The other church is The Summit Church which is closer to us.  It reminds us of FBC Smyrna when we moved to Legacy Drive.  It is a rather new church.  It is about 10 yrs old.  It just doesn’t have all the kids stuff we are used to.  But I know God will lead us wherever we are supposed to go.  I sit in these services and try to see where we would fit in and how we would serve.

Tom is doing really well.  His job is going good.  I have really enjoyed having him around all the time.  He is so much more relaxed and less stressed than he was.  I have really enjoyed staying at home.  I am still trying to do things to the house.  I have my craft room left to get together.  It has been the junk room while everything else has been finding its home.  I am finally ready to tackle it.  I can’t wait to get it together so I can do something crafty.  Right now I have been working in the yard trying to get all of the flower beds under control.  Things have gotten a little out of control since no one has been living here for a couple of years.  We are making some new beds in the front of the house.

Well I guess I have filled you in enough for now.  Hopefully you are up to date on all the goings on around here in Arkansas.  We hope to see some of you when you pass through or please feel free to come see us anytime.  We would love the company.

Good Times and Getting Old September 8, 2007

We had a great Labor Day weekend last weekend. We all headed “home” to Smyrna for the weekend. The kids got to go to LCA on Friday and see all their friends. All three spent time with their friends all weekend. Thomas got to go to LCA’s football game in Memphis Friday night. He was their manager last year so it was neat for him to see all the guys. Tom and I actually got to go on a date Friday night. We ate at Buca di Beppo’s and it was delicious. We do not have one of those here in Arkansas, so when we come to Tennessee we try to eat there. It is one of Tom’s favorite restaurants. Saturday night was spent with our good friends the Knight’s and the Mosley’s. Then the big reason we came for the weekend was to have Emma Grace baptized at FBC Smyrna. It was an amazing experience. Tom got to baptize her and it was beyond words. This was a day we will always remember. Here is the video.

Our dear friend Alison took some wonderful pictures of it from the audience. To see those photos go here. Thanks Alison for the great shots.

We returned home Sunday evening late. Thanks everyone for a great weekend. It was wonderful to get to see everyone.

Then came Monday, Labor Day. We had nothing scheduled that day. We decided to come home on Sunday so the kids could get their makeup work from Friday finished and so we could rest after our fun weekend. We slept in and were going about our lazy day when the doorbell rang. I had not been up to long. Those of you who know me well know I love to sleep in whenever I can. So it was pushing late morning when this incident took place. I was dressed in my best knit capris (ha-ha) and Walmart t-shirt with not an ounce of makeup on. I had combed my hair, but it was not at its best by any means. Emma goes to answer the door and runs back to me to tell me someone’s at the door. Tom is next door at our house so, it is up to me to see who has intruded on my lazy day. I get to the door and this woman is standing there and this is what she says to me:

“I stopped by the other day and talked with your son about the house down the street that might be for sell.”

Now when she said “my son” she was not talking about Thomas, but about Tom-MY HUSBAND! I could not believe what I heard. I stood there with my mouth hanging open and looking at her like she was crazy. Some how I managed to get out that he was my husband and tried to carry on a conversation with this woman. During our conversation all these thoughts were running frantically through my brain. How old did I look? Could I possibly look old enough to have a child Tom’s age? Tom’s mom looks very good for her 64 years, but could I come close to being that old? Does Tom really look that young? I know I looked bad at that point in time, but I never thought I looked that bad to be confused with someone old enough to have a 38 year old son. Someone please help my ego and tell me the woman was just crazy. Tom walked up and rescued me from this woman who couldn’t be that much younger than me. He came in and consoled me and told me she was just confused. When she came by before he had told her he was living with his mom and dad and that she assumed that’s who I was when I answered the door. I’m hoping she maybe didn’t have her contacts in or she was partially blind. Now this woman wants to maybe buy Neelie and Bobo’s house which will be two doors down from us. Do I really want this woman living by me? I think not. This is like being asked if you are pregnant when you are not. I have thought about this off and on all week. I always thought I looked okay for my age. I have always been okay with how old I am, but now I’m starting to wonder. I’m sure I will get over what she said to me in time. Has anyone ever said something to you that made your mouth hang open and your eyes bulge out of your head? Let me know. I would like to hear from others who have had similar experiences. Maybe it will make me feel better about mine and we can all laugh together.

Now onto house news. Maybe, just maybe, the house will be ready in a couple of weeks. Rest assured I will let you know when that amazing feat happens. There will be much joy and jubilation.

All is Well! August 29, 2007

Well it has been awhile since I’ve posted. I keep thinking I will get around to it, but the time to get around to it never comes. We have been busy around here. The kids are in their 3rd week of school and it is going better than we thought. The kids are really adjusting well. When they got in the car the first day they only had good things to say about their day. This is a huge praise! When we decided to move, one of our greatest concerns is how the kids would adjust. So far they are doing great. They have all made some friends and are liking their school.

I am enjoying doing very little. We are still not in the house. It is getting closer but I am not sure when we will be in it. Right now they are working on the tile in the bathrooms. Most of the house has been painted. I am really loving the colors. The kitchen, living room, and sunroom will be painted soon. Hopefully we will be in our house soon.

Tom has officially started work for Legacy Commercial Properties. So far he is enjoying everything. It is so nice to have him around all day. It may get old later, but right now we are enjoying our time together. He has been helping me get the kids ready for school. He usually makes their breakfast. He makes sure they get a good meal to start their day. We have never been a family to eat breakfast together. The last couple of years breakfast usually consisted of poptarts or granola bars. Whatever they could eat in the car on the way to school. It has been nice to start our day together.

We will be in Smyrna this weekend. Emma Grace is getting baptized Sunday in the second service. We hope to see everyone. I always say I will try to get pictures but I am still using Tom’s mom’s MAC and I can’t figure out how to get the pictures thumbnail size to post them. I need some MAC training. I hope everyone is having a great day and we will see you this weekend.
