God is so GOOD! September 17, 2008

Can you believe I am posting twice in one week.  I know it’s amazing isn’t it?

Well lately I have been feeling a little sorry for myself.  I have been a little lonely here in Arkansas.  I have been emailing and Facebooking (is that a word? I just made it up) with all of you in Tennessee and it has made me miss you all terribly.  I have yet to make the kind of friendships here that I had there.  I know there will never be friends like you all.  You are irreplaceable.  We have just starting to become involved at church.  I never thought we would have taken so long to get established in a church.  But it just goes to show you how easy it is to not go to church.  We went to church but not always on a regular basis and we were church looking.  We feel God has led us to Fellowship Bible Church.  I am meeting people, but I still feel like an outsider.

Well on to why God is so good.  I was crying out to God (literally) on Tuesday morning wanting to make connections with someone.  I don’t want ya’ll to think I have no friends, just not any close friends.  I want someone I can call at the last minute and go have lunch or go shopping with.  So, last night I was on my way to a Women’s event at church and I got a call from a lady on my weight loss class and she wanted some of us to get together for lunch today.   I was thrilled to get to see them.  I haven’t seen them in awhile.  I am still going to class but they have stopped because they have lost the weight they wanted to lose.  Needless to say I still have more to lose (I have lost 65 lbs so when I see you guys you better notice).  Then, last night when I got home from church I had an email from someone in my New Beginnings Class wanting some of us to go to lunch today.  I couldn’t believe it.  Two invitations in one day.  I love that I have a God who cares enough for me to not only hear my cries, but to let me know that He loves me so much that He provided two lunch dates.  So I am off to get ready for lunch with friends and I couldn’t be happier.  I am just going to one though – the diet would not be working if I had lunch twice in one day.  We scheduled lunch with the friends from church for next week.

Life in Arkansas July 18, 2008

I do not know what is wrong with me lately.  I want to tell you what is going on in our lives, I just haven’t.  It isn’t like I have a whole lot going on right now.  I have time to read all of your blogs, I just haven’t taken time to write my own.  But alas it has been a long time.  I can’t say it won’t happen again, so I won’t apologize and tell you I will try to be better.  I hope I will be better, but I make no promises.  So onto what has been going on.

I got tagged by Ashley recently to come up with a 6 word memoir.  So what I finally came up with was…

Wife, Mom, Daughter, Sister Immeasurably Blessed

I do feel blessed to be Tom’s wife and mom to Thomas, Lizzie, and Emma Grace.  I have a wonderful mom and an incredible mother-in-law (not everyone can say that).  My sister is one of my best friends.  Needless to say I have one incredible family and I know it.  Sometimes they drive me crazy but they are still all mine.  I’m sure I drive them crazy from time to time as well.  I won’t tagged any one else because I figure you have all been tagged.  If you haven’t and want to come up with your 6 word memoir then consider yourself tagged.

On to other topics of interests.  I did go to my reunion and had a great time.  I am so glad I went.  I made Tom go with me so I wouldn’t have to walk in by myself.  He was a real trooper to put up with all of that.  The 20 year was so much better than the 10 year.  At the 10yr everyone was trying to impress each other and  outdo each other.  This one was much more relaxed and people were more laid back.  I got to see everyone I wanted to see.  There were 5 of us that were always together and it was great to catch up with all of them.  What I was shocked at was the difference in some of the guys.  There were quite a few that I did not even recognize.  They had changed that much.  They were gray and had bellies.  It was just a shock that the “cool” guys that we all had crushes on were not that impressive anymore.  Tom has aged so much better than most of them.  He also said that the girls all looked older than me.  That make me feel good that I didn’t look as old as they did.  Someone the other day was shocked that I was going to my 20th reunion, she said I only looked like I was 32 or 33.  I said “Bless You” and she made my day.  I feel redeemed from the crazy lady that thought I was Tom’s mom.  So since I am older than many of you I can only encourage you to go to your reunions that are coming in the next few years.  You won’t regret it and no one will tell you that you should have lost that 50lbs because alot of them could stand to lose a few themselves.

It was great to see everyone when we were in Tennessee.  We had fun catching up with everyone.  The kids had a great time at camp whatever and Emma Grace had fun with Robyn and Emily.  Thanks for everyone’s  hospitality and always know that we would love to extend that hospitality to anyone that wants to come to see us in Arkansas.  We can go to the lake and play on the boat and the jet skiis.  They are tons of fun.  In fact we will be going in a few days to play and relax.

Good Times and Getting Old September 8, 2007

We had a great Labor Day weekend last weekend. We all headed “home” to Smyrna for the weekend. The kids got to go to LCA on Friday and see all their friends. All three spent time with their friends all weekend. Thomas got to go to LCA’s football game in Memphis Friday night. He was their manager last year so it was neat for him to see all the guys. Tom and I actually got to go on a date Friday night. We ate at Buca di Beppo’s and it was delicious. We do not have one of those here in Arkansas, so when we come to Tennessee we try to eat there. It is one of Tom’s favorite restaurants. Saturday night was spent with our good friends the Knight’s and the Mosley’s. Then the big reason we came for the weekend was to have Emma Grace baptized at FBC Smyrna. It was an amazing experience. Tom got to baptize her and it was beyond words. This was a day we will always remember. Here is the video.

Our dear friend Alison took some wonderful pictures of it from the audience. To see those photos go here. Thanks Alison for the great shots.

We returned home Sunday evening late. Thanks everyone for a great weekend. It was wonderful to get to see everyone.

Then came Monday, Labor Day. We had nothing scheduled that day. We decided to come home on Sunday so the kids could get their makeup work from Friday finished and so we could rest after our fun weekend. We slept in and were going about our lazy day when the doorbell rang. I had not been up to long. Those of you who know me well know I love to sleep in whenever I can. So it was pushing late morning when this incident took place. I was dressed in my best knit capris (ha-ha) and Walmart t-shirt with not an ounce of makeup on. I had combed my hair, but it was not at its best by any means. Emma goes to answer the door and runs back to me to tell me someone’s at the door. Tom is next door at our house so, it is up to me to see who has intruded on my lazy day. I get to the door and this woman is standing there and this is what she says to me:

“I stopped by the other day and talked with your son about the house down the street that might be for sell.”

Now when she said “my son” she was not talking about Thomas, but about Tom-MY HUSBAND! I could not believe what I heard. I stood there with my mouth hanging open and looking at her like she was crazy. Some how I managed to get out that he was my husband and tried to carry on a conversation with this woman. During our conversation all these thoughts were running frantically through my brain. How old did I look? Could I possibly look old enough to have a child Tom’s age? Tom’s mom looks very good for her 64 years, but could I come close to being that old? Does Tom really look that young? I know I looked bad at that point in time, but I never thought I looked that bad to be confused with someone old enough to have a 38 year old son. Someone please help my ego and tell me the woman was just crazy. Tom walked up and rescued me from this woman who couldn’t be that much younger than me. He came in and consoled me and told me she was just confused. When she came by before he had told her he was living with his mom and dad and that she assumed that’s who I was when I answered the door. I’m hoping she maybe didn’t have her contacts in or she was partially blind. Now this woman wants to maybe buy Neelie and Bobo’s house which will be two doors down from us. Do I really want this woman living by me? I think not. This is like being asked if you are pregnant when you are not. I have thought about this off and on all week. I always thought I looked okay for my age. I have always been okay with how old I am, but now I’m starting to wonder. I’m sure I will get over what she said to me in time. Has anyone ever said something to you that made your mouth hang open and your eyes bulge out of your head? Let me know. I would like to hear from others who have had similar experiences. Maybe it will make me feel better about mine and we can all laugh together.

Now onto house news. Maybe, just maybe, the house will be ready in a couple of weeks. Rest assured I will let you know when that amazing feat happens. There will be much joy and jubilation.

Have Patience, Have Patience, Don’t Be In Such A Hurry! July 22, 2007

Here I sit in Arkansas looking out at the lake. It is beautiful. There are a couple of fishermen out on the lake. Our swans are swimming in front of me. We have four swans that live on the lake. Two are the parents and we have two babies. Although the babies are almost as big as their parents. We couldn’t ask for a better place to live (other than Tennessee). If only we could live in OUR house all would be better. This remodel is taking forever!! We thought we would be in the house by the time we close on our house in TN, but now we are less than two weeks away from that. I do not see how how that will happen. We have been put on the back burners with our contractors. They were supposed to work all weekend and yet we never saw them. The painters are supposed to start Tuesday but I do not think that will happen since nothing happened this weekend. This project is teaching us all about patience. I have never been one to have a whole lot of patience so this is very trying. My laid back husband is just about to explode all over someone. We really want to be in the house before the kids start school. Hopefully that will happen. Tom’s parents are still in Alaska, so we are staying at their house. They will not be home until August 8th. The house will be beautiful when it is finished. We are so excited to be in a house like this and feel extremley blessed. We want to thank Kyle, Amy, Jordan, Peyton, and Evan for stopping by to see us yesterday. We will love it when our friends come to see us. Our house will always be opened to any of our friends who would like to stop by and see us. We hope many of you will! Thanks for listening to my rant about our house. Maybe next time I will have better news about our house. Those contractors had better get a ton of work done our house this week!

I want to say a special thanks to boomama and Monk and Neagle. This last week boomama had a giveaway and I got this awesome CD. I can’t wait for it to get here this week. Thanks again! Click on this banner below to hear some of their songs. These guys are also live in my hometown of Amarillo, Texas so they have to be great!

GONE! July 13, 2007

Well, we did it! We have a contract on our house.  I told the “girls” at dinner last night that it is finally happening.  I have known all along that we were moving, but signing that contract tonight made it final.  We really are leaving.  We are so excited about our new life in Arkansas, but is so hard to leave.  Those of you who know me at all, know that I cry at the drop of a hat and boy have I shed some tears these last few days.  I was thinking today, that FBC is where all three of the kids have come to know Christ as their LORD.  There is a verse that says something to the effect of “I delight that my children walk in the LORD.”  Let me tell you I am delighted!! We are planning for Emma Grace’s baptism before we leave and when that happens all of them will have been baptized there as well.  We will forever be connected to our friends and our church.  They have been a part of all of our spiritual journeys.  I feel so blessed to have three children who are Christ followers.  My prayer now is that we find a church that will continue the work that is happening in my children’s lives.  One that will challenge, encourage, love, walk beside, teach, be exciting, life changing, and all the other wonderful things FBC is.  We have been so blessed by many of  the ministries at FBC.  Thanks to all of those who have been involved in our lives and our childrens’ lives.  We love you all!!  So, I will close before I bring myself to more tears (or any of you reading this)!!

P.S. (do you really put a p.s. at the end of your blog if you need to add something? I may be breaking all kinds of blog rules but oh well.)

I found out this week that my dad has prostate cancer.  Please pray for him and my mom.  They are deciding on treatment in the next few weeks. He will probably have it removed.  The doctors have told him that it is small and they have caught th cancer in time.  He told me he was going to be just fine and I believe him.  Thanks for your prayers.

My Quiet House June 26, 2007

I am here in my very quiet house.  It is not very often that my house is quiet.  Usually there are any number of kids and teenagers in my house.  But tonight it is just me.  Kind of nice for a change.  Yesterday, Thomas and Lizzie packed up and headed off to CAMP WHATEVER!  Thomas was very excited and Lizzie as well.  Thomas has made me promise that after we move that I will get him back to Smyrna to go to Camp next summer.  Chris, David, and Melanie do an awesome job with camp.  Please pray for all of those who went to camp this year.  They took over 300 youth this year.  I know many lives will be changed this week.  I remember back at all the youth camps I went to and what fun we had.

Well, back to my quiet house.  Emma Grace is spending the night with a neighbor friend and will spend the day with her while I go to work tomorrow.  Tom left today to go back to Arkansas.  I actually have the bed to myself tonight!  What a treat!  Not that I do not love sleeping next to my fabulous husband every night, but once in a great while it is nice to sleep by yourself.  Tom got to be here for a week.  We had a wonderfull going away party last Thursday night.  Thanks to everyone who came.  We had a wonderful time with all of our friends.  It meant more than you will ever know.  As I have said before, we have the most amazing friends.  I only hope we can find friends like you in Arkansas.  You all have left some pretty big shoes to fill.  I don’t think anyone will ever come close.  Thanks especially to Laura and Jenny for all your hard work getting all of that together.

Thanks also to everyone who contributed to the money tree.  It was very nice of you.  If you did not get to sign the picture mat, I will have it in the Crosswalk this Wednesday and Sunday.  Please come by and sign it for us.  Earlier in the week my bunco girls also had a nice suprise with some money in a very sweet card.  The money will be put to good use in our new house.  There will be many things to buy.  I may splurge with that money and get a small flat screen TV for our bathroom.  Tom found me the most wonderful bathtub (it is an airjet and it is huge) for our bathroom and there is a spot right above it that he had wired for cable.  He knows how I love to watch tv and I can’t wait to soak in the tub and watch my favorite tv shows.  I know it’s a little extravagant but that’s my husband for you.  He’s the best!

Tom is now in business for himself.  It will all be official this week.  The company has been divided and he is now in charge of Legacy Inc.  It was named Legacy because Neelie and Bobo left us their legacy to make this all possible.  Hopefully it will continue on to be a legacy to our children as well.  Also, I can’t help but think of FBC Smyrna when I hear legacy as well.

Well, it’s getting late and my big empty bed is calling out to my to come and enter and get a restfull night’s sleep.  I want to also say a huge congratulations to our dear friends Brad and Alison who adopted  a beautiful baby girl today.  Norah, I can’t wait to meet you and you have the most wonderful parents in the world!  To see their adoption story go here.

Good night!
