Well, I have decided I have been away long enough.  I know you are all dying to know what is going on here in Arkansas.  I really do not have a great excuse as to why I haven’t blogged in forever.  I just haven’t.  But since I am being deleted from the blogrolls of my nearest and dearest of friends I guess I better get to blogging again.

Last time I talked I blogged I told you about the crazy lady who thought I was Tom’s mom.  Well guess what?  They will be moving into Neelie and Bobo’s house at the end of the month.  They are only renting the house instead of buying it.  They will be in it for at least a year, so I guess I will make the best of it.  I am sure she is a really nice lady, but I might still be a little bitter about the whole thing.

On to other things.  We have added to our family.  We now have 2 puppies.  We got them a couple of months ago.  They are both boys and their names are Jake and Ridley.  The dogs are Morkies – Yorkie and Maltese mix.  We are having so much fun with them.  The kids are so excited.  They have wanted a dog for so long.  They are really adding excitement to our family.

The kids are doing really well.  Everyone is doing better than I ever thought they would.  I thought the transition would take longer, but they are adjusting well.  School is going great.  They are making good friends.  Although they still talk about how they would rather still be in Smyrna.  Thomas and Lizzie have been on the Principal’s List all year which means they have made all A’s.  Emma Grace has also done just as well, they just don’t have a principal’s list at the elementary.   Emma Grace is playing soccer this spring.  It has rained here so much that she has only played two of the games.  Four have been cancelled because of weather.  Thomas is enjoying hanging out with his friends and playing XBOX during his every free moment.  Lizzie is finally a teenager and also enjoys being with her friends.

We are still looking for a church.  I know we been here 8 months and still haven’t decided on a church.  I never thought it would take us this long but it has.  We have got it narrowed down to 2.  This has been the hardest part of moving here.  There is nothing like FBC Smyrna here.  I know I shouldn’t compare churches here to what is there, but it is hard not to.   One of the churches is Fellowship Bible Church in Little Rock.  This is the original Fellowship Bible Church.  It is wonderful, but really big and not close to us.  We have to drive about 25 minutes to get there.  The other church is The Summit Church which is closer to us.  It reminds us of FBC Smyrna when we moved to Legacy Drive.  It is a rather new church.  It is about 10 yrs old.  It just doesn’t have all the kids stuff we are used to.  But I know God will lead us wherever we are supposed to go.  I sit in these services and try to see where we would fit in and how we would serve.

Tom is doing really well.  His job is going good.  I have really enjoyed having him around all the time.  He is so much more relaxed and less stressed than he was.  I have really enjoyed staying at home.  I am still trying to do things to the house.  I have my craft room left to get together.  It has been the junk room while everything else has been finding its home.  I am finally ready to tackle it.  I can’t wait to get it together so I can do something crafty.  Right now I have been working in the yard trying to get all of the flower beds under control.  Things have gotten a little out of control since no one has been living here for a couple of years.  We are making some new beds in the front of the house.

Well I guess I have filled you in enough for now.  Hopefully you are up to date on all the goings on around here in Arkansas.  We hope to see some of you when you pass through or please feel free to come see us anytime.  We would love the company.

Good Times and Getting Old September 8, 2007

We had a great Labor Day weekend last weekend. We all headed “home” to Smyrna for the weekend. The kids got to go to LCA on Friday and see all their friends. All three spent time with their friends all weekend. Thomas got to go to LCA’s football game in Memphis Friday night. He was their manager last year so it was neat for him to see all the guys. Tom and I actually got to go on a date Friday night. We ate at Buca di Beppo’s and it was delicious. We do not have one of those here in Arkansas, so when we come to Tennessee we try to eat there. It is one of Tom’s favorite restaurants. Saturday night was spent with our good friends the Knight’s and the Mosley’s. Then the big reason we came for the weekend was to have Emma Grace baptized at FBC Smyrna. It was an amazing experience. Tom got to baptize her and it was beyond words. This was a day we will always remember. Here is the video.

Our dear friend Alison took some wonderful pictures of it from the audience. To see those photos go here. Thanks Alison for the great shots.

We returned home Sunday evening late. Thanks everyone for a great weekend. It was wonderful to get to see everyone.

Then came Monday, Labor Day. We had nothing scheduled that day. We decided to come home on Sunday so the kids could get their makeup work from Friday finished and so we could rest after our fun weekend. We slept in and were going about our lazy day when the doorbell rang. I had not been up to long. Those of you who know me well know I love to sleep in whenever I can. So it was pushing late morning when this incident took place. I was dressed in my best knit capris (ha-ha) and Walmart t-shirt with not an ounce of makeup on. I had combed my hair, but it was not at its best by any means. Emma goes to answer the door and runs back to me to tell me someone’s at the door. Tom is next door at our house so, it is up to me to see who has intruded on my lazy day. I get to the door and this woman is standing there and this is what she says to me:

“I stopped by the other day and talked with your son about the house down the street that might be for sell.”

Now when she said “my son” she was not talking about Thomas, but about Tom-MY HUSBAND! I could not believe what I heard. I stood there with my mouth hanging open and looking at her like she was crazy. Some how I managed to get out that he was my husband and tried to carry on a conversation with this woman. During our conversation all these thoughts were running frantically through my brain. How old did I look? Could I possibly look old enough to have a child Tom’s age? Tom’s mom looks very good for her 64 years, but could I come close to being that old? Does Tom really look that young? I know I looked bad at that point in time, but I never thought I looked that bad to be confused with someone old enough to have a 38 year old son. Someone please help my ego and tell me the woman was just crazy. Tom walked up and rescued me from this woman who couldn’t be that much younger than me. He came in and consoled me and told me she was just confused. When she came by before he had told her he was living with his mom and dad and that she assumed that’s who I was when I answered the door. I’m hoping she maybe didn’t have her contacts in or she was partially blind. Now this woman wants to maybe buy Neelie and Bobo’s house which will be two doors down from us. Do I really want this woman living by me? I think not. This is like being asked if you are pregnant when you are not. I have thought about this off and on all week. I always thought I looked okay for my age. I have always been okay with how old I am, but now I’m starting to wonder. I’m sure I will get over what she said to me in time. Has anyone ever said something to you that made your mouth hang open and your eyes bulge out of your head? Let me know. I would like to hear from others who have had similar experiences. Maybe it will make me feel better about mine and we can all laugh together.

Now onto house news. Maybe, just maybe, the house will be ready in a couple of weeks. Rest assured I will let you know when that amazing feat happens. There will be much joy and jubilation.

All is Well! August 29, 2007

Well it has been awhile since I’ve posted. I keep thinking I will get around to it, but the time to get around to it never comes. We have been busy around here. The kids are in their 3rd week of school and it is going better than we thought. The kids are really adjusting well. When they got in the car the first day they only had good things to say about their day. This is a huge praise! When we decided to move, one of our greatest concerns is how the kids would adjust. So far they are doing great. They have all made some friends and are liking their school.

I am enjoying doing very little. We are still not in the house. It is getting closer but I am not sure when we will be in it. Right now they are working on the tile in the bathrooms. Most of the house has been painted. I am really loving the colors. The kitchen, living room, and sunroom will be painted soon. Hopefully we will be in our house soon.

Tom has officially started work for Legacy Commercial Properties. So far he is enjoying everything. It is so nice to have him around all day. It may get old later, but right now we are enjoying our time together. He has been helping me get the kids ready for school. He usually makes their breakfast. He makes sure they get a good meal to start their day. We have never been a family to eat breakfast together. The last couple of years breakfast usually consisted of poptarts or granola bars. Whatever they could eat in the car on the way to school. It has been nice to start our day together.

We will be in Smyrna this weekend. Emma Grace is getting baptized Sunday in the second service. We hope to see everyone. I always say I will try to get pictures but I am still using Tom’s mom’s MAC and I can’t figure out how to get the pictures thumbnail size to post them. I need some MAC training. I hope everyone is having a great day and we will see you this weekend.

Children July 31, 2007

III John 4 says “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

Please join Tom and I on September 2nd at the 10:30 service for Emma Grace’s baptism. We will be coming to Smyrna for Labor Day Weekend for this joyous event. We wanted to give our nearest and dearest friends a heads up on when she will be baptized. Thanks for keeping up with us.

Lizzie and I will be heading to TN tomorrow to finish packing up the house. The truck comes Thursday and we close on Friday. It is hard to think that this chapter of our lives is coming to a close. We will always cherish our time in Smyrna. We will be making visits, so you have not seen the last of us.

Girls- When the annual trip is planned you better count me in because I will be there!!

If anyone is looking to have a little fun, come by and do some packing. We will be there Wednesday and Thursday.

Also, no one has claimed our lovely dryer. We would love to give it to a good home that needs it.

Update July 29, 2007

We finally are seeing some progress here in Arkansas. The contractors came the end of last week and worked really hard. We probably have a couple more days of work and then the painters can come in. So that means I am staying here while Tom is going back to Tennessee to pack our house. The movers come on Thursday to load the truck. I really want to be there to pack, but I also need to be here to make sure the paint they are putting on my walls is right. I am hoping to come to Tennessee on Wednesday. Thomas and Lizzie really would like to go on a Wednesday night one more time. I would too. When I left almost 2 weeks ago, I didn’t think the last time I was at church was my last time to be there before moving.

We probably will not be in our house until the middle of August. Which means we will be moving in and starting school all at the same time. Not really how we wanted to have things work out, but there’s nothing we can do about it. If they get to paint this week, then next week the floors will be done. We are having every kind of floor there is put in this house. We have carpets in the bedrooms downstairs, hardwood in the entry and hallway, tile in the bathrooms, tile to be repaired in the rest of the downstairs. Upstairs there was hardwood already down, so we are having that refinished, which will take a week to get done, so that will be the holdup of us getting into the house. The movers are delivering our stuff on 8/7. We are hoping the downstairs bedrooms will be finished and the kitchen/greatroom area will be through so we can put our stuff somewhere.

Tom will be adding photos to this post sometime. I am on his mom’s MAC and can not figure out how to make the photos small where they do not take up the entire screen. So check back for updated pictures of the house and pictures of the swans.

Also, we have a dryer that we will no longer need. We bought a new one to match the washer we bought last year. The dryer is around 5 yrs old and runs well. So if anyone knows someone who needs a dryer please let me know. We need it to be picked up on Thursday for whoever wants it.

Have Patience, Have Patience, Don’t Be In Such A Hurry! July 22, 2007

Here I sit in Arkansas looking out at the lake. It is beautiful. There are a couple of fishermen out on the lake. Our swans are swimming in front of me. We have four swans that live on the lake. Two are the parents and we have two babies. Although the babies are almost as big as their parents. We couldn’t ask for a better place to live (other than Tennessee). If only we could live in OUR house all would be better. This remodel is taking forever!! We thought we would be in the house by the time we close on our house in TN, but now we are less than two weeks away from that. I do not see how how that will happen. We have been put on the back burners with our contractors. They were supposed to work all weekend and yet we never saw them. The painters are supposed to start Tuesday but I do not think that will happen since nothing happened this weekend. This project is teaching us all about patience. I have never been one to have a whole lot of patience so this is very trying. My laid back husband is just about to explode all over someone. We really want to be in the house before the kids start school. Hopefully that will happen. Tom’s parents are still in Alaska, so we are staying at their house. They will not be home until August 8th. The house will be beautiful when it is finished. We are so excited to be in a house like this and feel extremley blessed. We want to thank Kyle, Amy, Jordan, Peyton, and Evan for stopping by to see us yesterday. We will love it when our friends come to see us. Our house will always be opened to any of our friends who would like to stop by and see us. We hope many of you will! Thanks for listening to my rant about our house. Maybe next time I will have better news about our house. Those contractors had better get a ton of work done our house this week!

I want to say a special thanks to boomama and Monk and Neagle. This last week boomama had a giveaway and I got this awesome CD. I can’t wait for it to get here this week. Thanks again! Click on this banner below to hear some of their songs. These guys are also live in my hometown of Amarillo, Texas so they have to be great!

Happy Birthday Tom! July 15, 2007

Filed under: Family — michalelhall @ 11:52 pm

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!  Today is Tom’s birthday and the kids and I want to wish him a huge, wonderful birthday.  He is in Arkansas and we are in Tennessee.  He is actually in Arkansas all by himself since his parents are in Alaska with his brother, his wife, and their kids (they just had their 3rd baby – Noah Alexander – congratulations Jeff and Sharon!!).  I hate that he had to celebrate by himself but that is the state of life we are in right now.  I keep telling myself this all about to come to an end and we will soon be all together again.

So, happy birthday to the most wonderful husband and dad around.  I love you more than words can say.  Thanks for always taking care of us and providing for us.  I can’t wait to see you on Tuesday!  Thanks again for everything!  We love you!
